My 3-D Fighting Game Engine... Scripting Preview 1 / 3

Scripting is a huge part of game-making. In fact, at times, the power of a game engine may be very dependent on it's scripting capabilities. The power of a scripting language will determine, and limit, what may be done with the game engine. Scripting is also not just limited to being text based but may also be visual (such as Kismet for the Unreal Engine) but above all scripting is still vital to game-makers for nearly doing EVERYTHING (well this is very much true, it becomes a tool to help make games - and one for some hackers to hack into them)!! Scripting is used as a means of feeding input and instructions to the game engine and this input may include, but won't be limited to, the following: * artificial intelligence so as to tell non-playable characters how to act and behave * triggers, so as to run a process, or do something when something happens (or is triggered) * determine access and what is not accessible (like locked doors) * to create objects or spawn stuff into th...
This is just to show you all what I've been working on for the past couple of weeks... it is intended to be a fighting game engine of which a more degraded version would be my final year project while the better one could make me a millionare!!! Fighting games are probably one of the most popular and long standing genres in the Gaming World, the genre dating back to as far as 1976. In the latter part of the 1990s, the genre, as with many other genres, moved to having more titles in three dimensions, although keeping many of the other aspects of the genre such as gameplay and camera appearance the same. There were some changes during this time, one aspect being that of more developments in artificial intelligence (AI). The fighting game engine project intends to investigate the core functionality of 3D fighting games, mostly in regards to the use of AI techniques, taking into consideration the different techniques and tools that may be used in creating them (such ...

I began modelling my scene based on the ideas and design that I had come up with a couple of weeks ago. I made use of a lot of modifiers to objects that I was putting in my scene. The modifiers included the Bend modifier which I used to make the road bend by the axis to about 100 degrees and to also make a landscape. I used a cloth modifier to make a blanket, turbosmooth for the landscape and lathe for making a jar. I made a lot of use of the coordinate system in 3DS Max, putting in several basic shapes and modifying them so as to suit what I intended them to become as part of my scene. My approach was to achieve some level of realism, but to an extent as too much would then be costing to my rendering time in future. I took care in naming all the shapes that I put into the scene so as for reference and to help me use them and assign materials. I also used several materials from the material editor and customised them as to how I required them. Most materials I took from the Architectur...

So I'm working on a 3-D animation short... it's called Kudzi's Stationery Cupboard: Get the party started!!! I have the basic storyboard coming to life and I have done a treatment on it... 3-D modelling is going on well so far with the use of 3-D Studio Max and I am using several of it's advanced tools such as Ray Tracer for reflections, FFD Boxes, Bones and I'm creating over 90% of the materials I am using for each object... so far so good I thought I'd just put a screenshot of some of this "impressive" 3-D modelling I am talking about!!! Notice the reflections of the glass table and the computer monitor (kind of like the one I have at home) and also the material used for the glass and the table's metal posts was done by me (wasn't difficult to do with good tools built in the program to enable one to view the results of whatever experimental tries they do before applying them)!!! Will post more progress in due course... feel free to visit my w...
